We've sunk ¢8.4bn into SHS education for 5.7m students - Ofori-Atta

Over the past seven years, the Akufo-Addo government has dedicated GH¢8.4 billion to enhance access to quality senior high school education, benefiting 5.7 million Ghanaians, according to Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s presentation of the 2024 budget to parliament on November 15, 2023.

The government has further boosted enrolment and learning outcomes for 3.8 million pupils through a GH¢3.6 billion investment in School Feeding Programmes.

Additionally, over 6 million pupils have received foundational education support, with a GH¢248.5 million investment in Capitation Grants.

The initiatives align with constitutional provisions and international goals, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing free, equitable, and quality education from basic to secondary levels.

The introduction of the Free Senior High School program in 2017 marked a significant milestone, resulting in an 11% increase in enrolment and a record-breaking 470,000 students enrolled in the 2017/18 academic year.
