On Thursday morning, a tragic motor accident claimed the life of a 51-year-old trader at the Dr. Mensah market in Kumasi. Akua Serwaa, a vendor of cabbages, was fatally crushed when a truck carrying second-hand clothing veered off course and collided with pedestrians in the market.
According to an eyewitness, the driver of the truck, with registration number GT 7452-11, appeared to have lost control of the vehicle, possibly due to brake failure.
After colliding with a parked taxi cab, the truck ran over Akua Serwaa, who was trading by the roadside. The impact of the accident was so severe that her body was mutilated.
Akua Serwaa, a resident of Antoa in the Kwabre East District, has since been taken to the morgue at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
This incident is a stark reminder of the dangers that traders and pedestrians face in markets and other public places, especially when drivers fail to exercise caution on the roads.
