WASSCE: Schools Exposed for Charging Students ¢1,000 for Exams Assistance – WAEC

WAEC Uncovers New Examination Malpractice Scheme

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has reported that certain schools are illicitly charging their students between GH¢500 and GH¢1,000 to facilitate cheating during the current final exams.

During a press conference, Mr. John K. Kapi, the head of public affairs for WAEC, expressed his dismay, stating, “Regrettably, it has come to our attention that certain educational institutions have devised elaborate schemes to encourage cheating within their examination centers.”

He went on to add, “Our information reveals that some of these schools are demanding fees ranging from GH¢500 to GH¢1,000 from their candidates, purportedly to provide assistance during the exams. This unethical practice has fostered a sense of entitlement among certain students who now seek to have their way.”

Additionally, Mr. Kapi disclosed that, “Some school proprietors have openly displayed hostility toward our monitoring teams, necessitating our request for support from the Ghana Police Service to ensure the safety of our personnel.”

Furthermore, he noted, “Several individuals have been apprehended for attempting to bribe our staff to turn a blind eye to the cheating attempts.”
