Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, the previous Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has offered support to more than 600 fresh senior high school (SHS) students in the Birim South District in the Eastern Region.
The support provided by Prof. Opoku-Amankwa includes provisions and other food items to aid their stay in school, especially for those who will be in boarding schools. He also helped in the preparation of the candidates for the 2022 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) through extra classes and mock exams, which led to many candidates gaining admission to various SHSs and technical institutes based on their favorable grades.
To motivate and encourage the students in their studies, Prof. Opoku-Amankwa presented them with the items as they prepared to depart for school. In addition, his foundation is supporting needy brilliant students in the district. According to Prof. Opoku-Amankwa, the foundation of every country is on its educational system, and nations should support the education of their children to develop and progress.
He commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for introducing the free SHS program, free technical and vocational education and training (TVET), and the Ghana TVET Service to handle schools offering TVET programs.
Prof. Opoku-Amankwa, who has taught at the university and served as Director-General for six years, said he felt it was necessary to support the children in this area of their development. The support to the children will continue, he added.
The Birim South District Director of Education, Henry Sintim, thanked Prof. Opoku-Amankwa for his continuous support to the children in the district, which he had been doing for some years now. The Chief Executive of the Birim South District Assembly, Asare Danso, also commended Prof. Opoku-Amankwa for his support.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the former GES boss, saying the items would help them in their studies, and prayed for God’s blessings upon his life.
