The Methodist Church of Ghana proudly opened the much-anticipated quadrennial event, METHOFEST 2023, on August 2, 2023, at the Akyem Oda Diocese.
This religious tourism program has become a significant cultural celebration that showcases the richness of Ghanaian traditions and the beauty of religious diversity.
The opening ceremony was a colorful display of various traditional cultural dances, captivating spoken word performances, and the presence of distinguished guests, including Deputy Minister Hon. Mark Okraku Mantey, representing the Ministry of Tourism.
In his address, Hon. Mark Okraku Mantey emphasized the importance of tourism in national development and commended the Methodist Church for organizing such a remarkable event that contributes to the promotion of tourism in the nation.
The Presiding Bishop, The Most Rev. Dr. Paul Boafo, officially opened the ceremony, expressing his gratitude to the dignitaries present for their continuous support in promoting Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
He highlighted the significant role that Ghanaian culture plays in the development of the nation, emphasizing the beauty and uniqueness of various Ghanaian tribes’ cultural outfits, diverse foods, and the richness of career opportunities.
The Methodist Church has always held a special place in the hearts of Ghanaians, promoting values of holiness and unity in building a better nation.
The diversity exhibited at METHOFEST 2023 not only signifies the beauty of God’s creation but also fosters a sense of connection among the Methodist community.
As part of the opening ceremony, The Most Rev. Dr. Paul Boafo expressed his appreciation to the Diocesan Bishop of Akyem Oda Diocese and his executives for accepting the responsibility of organizing this significant event.
METHOFEST 2023 is just one of the two main Connexional programs they have undertaken, illustrating the commitment of the Methodist Church to strengthen their spiritual foundation while preserving their cultural heritage.
The Presiding Bishop also used the platform to address certain contemporary issues. He firmly condemned the LGBTQ act, stating that it is not in line with Ghanaian cultural values and goes against the will of God.
The Methodist Church Ghana stands firmly in support of promoting Religious Tourism and believes that it is an essential means to not only appreciate the beauty of our traditions but also to enrich the spiritual experiences of both locals and tourists alike.
The Most Rev. Dr. Paul Boafo officially launched METHOFEST 2023, marking the beginning of a journey filled with cultural festivities, spiritual reflection, and an opportunity to promote Ghana’s religious tourism to the world.
