On a bright and auspicious day of 5th August, 2023, the Methodist Church Ghana celebrated a significant milestone with the dedication of the Dawhenya Afienya Circuit Superintendent’s Manse at the Bethel Methodist Chapel.
The event was graced by the presence of Rt. Rev. Ofori Akyea, whose sermon resonated deeply with the essence of the minister’s role within the community.
During his insightful sermon, Rt. Rev. Ofori Akyea emphasized the true purpose of a minister’s residence within a community.
He urged everyone present to recognize that the Manse is not merely a dwelling place for the minister and his family but a symbol of hospitality and unity among the people of the community.
The minister is there to serve not only his people but to be a guiding light for all residents, regardless of their backgrounds.
With passion and conviction, the Rt. Rev. warned about the challenges that come with the responsibility of living in the Manse.
He cautioned the attendees to be vigilant against potential intruders who may exploit the minister’s goodwill, portraying themselves as fraudsters moving from one Manse to another with fabricated stories.
Such incidents could undermine the atmosphere of trust and goodwill essential for fostering a strong community.
To emphasize his point, the Rt. Rev. turned to the teachings of the Bible.
He recounted the story of the Prophet Elijah, who found kindness and hospitality in a woman from a village he passed through.
The woman selflessly served Elijah, and her act of kindness was rewarded with a prophetic blessing – the birth of a son.
This biblical tale serves as a reminder that acts of kindness and hospitality towards others have a way of attracting divine blessings.
“Kindness,” the Rt. Rev. proclaimed, “is a fundamental quality that every believer must embrace. It is through acts of service to others that God rewards us and brings us out of difficulties.”
The dedication of the Manse is not just an occasion for celebration, but a call to action for the entire congregation and community.
It serves as a reminder that the minister’s presence should be a beacon of hope, comfort, and support for those in need.
By fostering a culture of hospitality and inclusivity, the Bethel Methodist Chapel can become a center for positive transformation, love, and unity.
As the ceremony drew to a close, the atmosphere was filled with renewed dedication and enthusiasm.
The attendees left the event with a deeper understanding of the significance of the Manse in the community and a commitment to embody the values of kindness and hospitality.
