The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) is advocating for equal treatment of teaching and non-teaching staff when it comes to welfare issues.
This is essential to ensure that the country can deliver the high-quality education it aspires to provide.
“In the field of education, it’s not just the teachers who play a pivotal role; non-teaching staff also contribute significantly to achieving the education standards we aim for.
The government should refrain from any discrimination against non-teaching staff,” emphasized Mark Denkyira Korankye, the General Secretary of TEWU, during the 13th Quadrennial Greater Regional Delegates Conference held in Accra under the theme “Fostering Partnership for Equitable Education Delivery in Ghana: The Role of TEWU.”
Mr. Korankye stressed that to achieve equitable education delivery in Ghana, inclusivity is imperative, with a commitment that “No child should be left behind.”
He firmly advocated against any form of discrimination, favoring urban children with more resources over their rural counterparts, emphasizing that every child, regardless of their background, should have the opportunity to reach their full potential through education.
The TEWU General Secretary highlighted that the event’s theme underscores a resolute dedication to the future of education in the country.
He also emphasized the importance of workplace safety, urging the government to recognize the contributions of non-teaching staff in maintaining uninterrupted teaching and learning.
Martin Owusu Amoamah, the Dean of Students Affairs at the Accra Technical University, commended TEWU’s unwavering commitment to the cause of education in Ghana.
He called for collaborative efforts with the government, communities, and stakeholders to overcome the barriers to equitable education in the country.
Mr. Amoamah stressed the need for constructive engagement with the government to shape policies and their implementation for the betterment of education.
Rev. Michael Adu-Poku, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of TEWU, emphasized the significance of education in personal development and society’s future, highlighting its role in unlocking potential and reducing inequalities. Despite facing challenges, he noted that their administration had achieved some successes.
