SLTF Releases List of Student Loan Defaulters and Issues Ultimatum for Repayment

The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has released a list of individuals who have defaulted on their student loans.

In a notice published in the Daily Graphic on Monday, September 11, 2023, the SLTF made the following statement: “We are addressing individuals who entered into loan agreements with the Students Loan Trust Fund while pursuing their tertiary education in Ghana. These agreements outlined the terms and conditions governing the acquisition of student loans.

We also want to draw your attention to the various options outlined in the loan agreement for repaying your loan. These options include repayment during your period of study, during your national service, a one-year moratorium after national service, and an additional repayment period of approximately eight years, depending on your program of study. Regrettably, it has come to our attention that you have failed, neglected, and/or refused to fulfill your repayment obligations.”

The SLTF is now urging those who are in default of their student loans to settle the outstanding amount within one month from the date of the publication of the list of defaulters.

Furthermore, the notice includes a warning: “Failure to comply with this request will be considered an acknowledgment of the debt. Consequently, a judgment will be entered by the Circuit Court against both you and your guarantor, in addition to incurring costs amounting to five percent of the outstanding debt.”
