Deborah Seyram Adablah, the young woman who filed a lawsuit against a former Chief Finance Officer of First Atlantic Bank, has been ordered by the High Court in Accra to pay GH¢6,000 in costs.
This decision came after the court, presided over by Justice Olivia Obeng Owusu, granted a motion filed by First Atlantic Bank’s lawyers, resulting in the bank’s name being struck out from the case on July 21.
Initially, the lawyers for First Atlantic Bank sought a cost award of GH¢50,000, but Adablah’s lawyer pleaded for a reduction to GH¢5,000. The main case is still pending due to several interim applications causing delays.
Among the interim applications, Adablah’s lawyer has filed a request with the court to set aside the order demanding her to surrender the car to the court’s registry. On the other hand, Ernest Kwasi Nimako has filed an interim application to hold Adablah in contempt and have her committed to prison.
Background: Deborah Seyram Adablah filed her lawsuit on January 23, 2023, claiming that Ernest Kwasi Nimako, whom she refers to as her “sugar daddy,” made several promises to her. These promises included buying her a car, paying for her accommodation for three years, providing a monthly stipend of GH¢3,000, marrying her after divorcing his wife, and offering a lump sum to start a business.
According to Adablah, although the car was initially registered in Nimako’s name, he later took it back, depriving her of its use after only one year. Additionally, she alleges that Nimako only paid for one year of accommodation, despite promising three years’ worth.
Adablah seeks a court order directing Nimako to transfer the car’s title into her name and return the car to her possession. She also requests the court to order Nimako to pay the lump sum, which they had agreed upon to start a business, allowing her to support herself.
Furthermore, Adablah wants the court to order Nimako to cover her medical expenses resulting from a “side effect of a family planning treatment” he had advised her to undertake to prevent pregnancy.
