SHS1 still Reporting on Monday - Ministry insists

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has declared that first-year Senior High School (SHS) students, whether under the single or double-track system, must commence classes on Monday, December 4, 2023, in alignment with the 2023/2024 academic calendar released by the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Despite concerns arising from the short notice, the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kwesi Kwarteng, clarified that the academic calendar had been available for weeks, allowing ample time for parental preparations. Kwarteng emphasized the resumption date, stating that while reporting on the first day was expected, first-year students unable to do so wouldn’t automatically lose their slots.

In response to concerns raised by the Minority in Parliament, Speaker Alban Bagbin urged the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, to consider postponing the reopening to the first week of January 2024.

Bagbin also requested the Minister’s appearance before Parliament on Monday for a briefing on the matter.
