A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in the town of Badu, situated in the Tain District of the Bono Region, on Sunday, October 29, 2023. An abandoned classroom block, weathered by time, succumbed to the relentless rainstorm, resulting in the tragic loss of three lives.

Regrettably, the victims, primarily comprising men, were declared lifeless upon their arrival at the Tain District Hospital.

This sorrowful episode occurred during a spirited football match held in conjunction with the annual Yam Festival celebrations, which are deeply significant to the community.

As the rain showered down during the match, played by spirited young men hailing from various towns within the Badu vicinity, an unforeseen calamity struck. In a frantic quest to escape the downpour, a multitude of individuals sought refuge within the confines of the abandoned classroom block, only to witness the structure’s untimely collapse.

Mr. Shehu Dauda, the Assemblyman of the Lawage Electoral Area and Chairman of the Town Council, has officially confirmed the tragic incident. Mr. Dauda, who also serves as a member of the festival planning committee, recounted the harrowing event during an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s “Ghana Yensom” morning show, hosted by Odeyeeba Kofi Essuman, on Thursday, November 1, 2023.

He reported that several individuals endured injuries as a result of the catastrophic collapse, and tragically, three souls perished. The deceased were solemnly pronounced dead at the Tain District Hospital in Nsoko, while those who sustained injuries received necessary medical attention at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital.
