The Asante Akyem Central District Education Directorate in the Ashanti region has announced measures to prevent junior high school students who have not yet reached Form 3 from taking the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
This decision aims to ensure that students receive sufficient preparation for their senior high school education.
According to the directorate, it is essential for students to progress through the educational stages up to JHS 3. Registering students from JHS 1 or 2 for the BECE prematurely can lead to a lack of exposure to critical learning materials and hinder their educational progress.
Therefore, parents are advised to refrain from enrolling their children in the examination at these early stages.
To enforce this policy, the Deputy Director in Charge of Human Resources at the Konongo Education Office, Francis Owusu, has warned public school heads of potential penalties if they are found guilty of allowing JHS 1 and 2 students to sit for the BECE.
The directorate plans to convene a meeting with all public school heads to emphasize the importance of compliance with this directive.
Francis Owusu delivered this message during the graduation ceremony of Holy Virgin Preparatory School in Konongo. The school’s proprietor, Francis Adu Aboagye, took the opportunity to encourage parents to pay special attention to their children’s diverse talents.
The graduation ceremony featured captivating performances by the students in singing, dancing, and poetry. Aboagye noted that these annual events aim to showcase the students’ talents beyond academics, allowing parents to appreciate their children’s multifaceted skills and aspirations.
