The National Service Scheme (NSS) management has successfully obtained government approval for increasing the monthly allowances provided to National Service Personnel, signaling positive developments for all involved.
The approved adjustment raises the allowance from GH¢559.04 to GH¢715.57, and this beneficial change will take effect from January 2023.
According to Ambrose Entsiwah Jnr., the Acting Director of Corporate Affairs, this approval follows a series of constructive engagements between the NSS, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and the Ministry of Finance. The official letter conveying the approval was signed on 18th July 2023 by Abena Osei-Asare (MP), the Deputy Minister for Finance.
The government’s commitment to improving the welfare of National Service Personnel is evident, as the letter instructs the Controller and Accountant-General to promptly implement the new allowance levels.
Under the new arrangement, all current National Service Personnel who have been actively serving are entitled to receive arrears corresponding to the difference resulting from the upward adjustment, starting from January 2023. The NSS management is assuring personnel that necessary administrative procedures are already underway to ensure the timely disbursement of these arrears.
In expressing gratitude for the government’s approval, the statement urges patience from all National Service Personnel during the finalization of administrative processes.
With the implementation of these new allowances, the management aims to significantly enhance the overall experience of National Service and positively contribute to the welfare of the personnel.
