Mohammed Kudus initiated the 2023/24 season on a highly positive note, contributing significantly to Ajax’s triumph over Heracles Almelo on Saturday night.
Ajax rallied from a goal deficit to secure a commanding 4-1 victory on their home turf, with Kudus playing a pivotal role in the exhilarating contest.
The 23-year-old midfielder not only found the back of the net himself but also played a crucial role in earning a late penalty, ensuring that his team secured a full three points in their inaugural match of the new Dutch Eredivisie campaign.
While the opposing team managed to take the lead in added time during the first half, Ajax promptly equalized and headed into halftime on level terms.
In the second half, Ajax displayed a superior performance and generated numerous scoring opportunities, although they were unable to capitalize on them.
Nonetheless, Kudus rose to the occasion, putting Ajax in the lead in the 75th minute. He skillfully maneuvered past an opponent with his initial touch and adeptly curved the ball beyond the goalkeeper, leaving spectators in awe.
Steven Bergwijn added a third goal to the tally later in the evening, ultimately securing a brace with a successful penalty kick, which was awarded after Kudus was fouled within the 18-yard box.
This season’s commencement is precisely what Kudus desired, particularly amidst ongoing reports about his potential departure from the Dutch side. Brighton and Hove Albion are among the interested parties awaiting the player’s decision.
Anyone complaining about his attitude now??? Kudus picking up exactly where he left off last season. What a fucking player man.
Please give us one more season Mo, and don’t listen to any of the crazy Ajax fans who say they don’t want you to stay 🙌🙌 pic.twitter.com/4oWpGdiAzB
