The Teacher and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) has issued a warning of a potential strike resurgence due to the government’s failure to settle all outstanding arrears relating to their professional development allowances.
In an official statement dated August 1, 2023, and signed by the General Secretary, Mark Dankyira Korankye, TEWU called upon the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to conclude their negotiations by August 4, 2023.
TEWU expressed disappointment in the handling of the negotiation process by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission regarding the payment of the allowance.
During a meeting held by the TEWU of TUC (GH) Management Committee on July 26, 2023, a resolution was reached, stating that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission must finalize the negotiation for the allowance’s payment by November 2023, with a deadline set for August 7, 2023.
The release further highlighted that if the Commission fails to meet the negotiation deadline by August 7, 2023, the Union’s leadership should not be held accountable for any actions taken by disgruntled members of the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union of TUC (GH).
