Effective from today, Tuesday, 1st August 2023, all tutors in the 46 Colleges of Education throughout the country will be withdrawing their services.
This decision was announced by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) through a statement issued on Monday, 31st July 2023.
In their statement, CETAG directed its members to refrain from rendering their services until the employer fulfills all orders issued by the National Labour Commission (NLC).
The NLC had issued an Arbitrary Award Order on Tuesday, 2nd May 2023, which has yet to be complied with by the government, despite efforts from the association’s leadership.
The main demands put forward by CETAG include the payment of seven-month arrears allowances in accordance with the approved Conditions of Service for its members.
Additionally, the association seeks an extra one-month salary as compensation for the additional duties performed in the year 2022.
Furthermore, CETAG is demanding the release of a leave roster to grant each member a 15-day working leave for the year 2022.
Lastly, the association insists on the unconditional elimination of the “killer” all-year-round academic calendar starting from the 2023/2024 academic year.
