Just In - RIP: Former Black Stars Striker Raphael Dwamena Dies on Pitch During Egnatia Rrogozhinë Game

Former Black Stars striker Raphael Dwamena has tragically passed away after collapsing on the pitch during the Egnatia Rrogozhinë game against Partizani Tirana.

Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio revealed on November 11, 2023, that the Ghanaian player suffered a heart seizure and collapsed in the 23rd minute.

Despite the swift response of the team doctors, their efforts to save his life were in vain. Dwamena had been playing with an implanted defibrillator since 2020 when he experienced a heart seizure for the first time.

In November 2021, he faced a cardiac arrest while playing for BW Linz in their OFB Cup game against TSV Hartberg.

During the OFB Cup round of 16 against Hartberg, Dwamena, who had been playing, collapsed on the sidelines in the 20th minute.

Subsequently, he was released by the club in 2022 due to his heart complications and later joined Albanian side KF Egnatia in January.

Over his nine-year professional career, Dwamena played for nine clubs, including notable ones such as Levante, Real Zaragoza, Red Bull Salzburg, and FC Zurich.

His international career with the Black Stars, unfortunately, was cut short by his heart issues. Making his debut in 2017, Dwamena played a total of nine games, scoring two goals.
