In a harrowing incident near Nyinahin in the Ashanti region, the Member of Parliament for Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akando, was involved in a life-threatening car accident.
The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Health Committee was on his way back from his constituency when tragedy struck.
His official vehicle collided head-on with a Kumasi-Sefwi Yiawso bound Sprinter bus on the outskirts of Atwima Mponua township.
The dreadful accident occurred around 18:05 on a Saturday evening. According to reports, the MP’s driver attempted to overtake a vehicle ahead, leading to a burst tire on the passenger side of the front.
This unfortunate incident caused the vehicle to veer into the lane of the oncoming bus, resulting in the collision.
Both vehicles, the MP’s with registration GN 441-14 and the Sprinter with registration AS 7363-18, suffered extensive damage, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
Sadly, many passengers on board the Sprinter Bus sustained severe injuries due to the impact.
Emergency response teams, including the Ambulance Service, police, and officers from the National Fire Service, quickly arrived at the scene to assist the injured.
However, the overwhelming number of casualties led to them being transported to the Nyinahin Government Hospital for treatment.
In critical condition, Mr. Akandoh, his driver, and security detail were referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where they joined other passengers who required specialized care as well.
The entire community is shaken by this tragic event, and authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine its cause and prevent similar incidents in the future.
