During the induction ceremony of the new General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, former President John Dramani Mahama emphasized the importance of church leaders speaking truth to power.
He stated that the church must not be passive in the governance of the country, and as the moral conscience of society, it must not be selective when criticizing those in power.
Mr. Mahama believes that national development will be advanced if church leaders boldly comment on national issues regardless of whose interests may be affected.
He urged the church to provide suggestions and guidance to leaders, not just to pray for them, as the church exists in society and is affected by whatever happens in society.
He commended the Ghana Pentecostal Council for their recent suggestions to the government on how to address the current economic challenges and stressed the importance of such gestures being made regardless of which political party is in power.
Mr. Mahama congratulated the newly inducted General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church and urged him to discharge his duties diligently.
In his inaugural address, Reverend Stephen Wengam, who now heads the Assemblies of God Church, called on relevant stakeholders to work together to find a lasting solution to the ongoing Bawku conflict, which has caused tensions in the community.
