The flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has called for a renewed commitment to elevate the standards of teaching and learning in the country.
Mr. Mahama’s call coincides with the celebration of World Teacher’s Day on October 5, 2023.
This year’s World Teacher’s Day revolves around the theme “The teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage.”
In a statement, Mr. Mahama praised teachers for their pivotal role in shaping lives, acknowledging their dedication, passion, and resilience. He emphasized that teaching is not just a profession but a noble calling.
As the day is celebrated, Mr. Mahama urged reflection on the state of education in the country and called for ongoing reforms and enhancements in teaching and learning outcomes.
He stressed the importance of prioritizing the improvement of teaching and learning in Ghana.
Mr. Mahama emphasized the vital role of teachers as the backbone of the education system and called for the provision of resources, tools, support, and training to enable them to deliver high-quality education to the nation’s children.
He disclosed the NDC’s commitment to investing in teacher education and professional development programs, recognizing that well-trained and motivated teachers are essential for unlocking the full potential of students.
