I Promise to Improve Free SHS, Standardize School Vacations and Re-openings says John Mahama

Allow Headmasters to Purchase Food for their Students - Mahama Supports CHASS

During a campaign tour in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region, former President John Mahama announced his plans to revamp the free senior high school (SHS) program if he is elected in the 2024 presidential election.

Mahama, who is seeking a return to office, criticized the current state of the free SHS program, describing it as ineffective and burdensome for students and parents.

Mahama stated that the program was not fulfilling its intended purpose of providing academic and financial support, and instead, it was placing additional pressure on families.

He argued that the amount of money spent on children’s education is more than when school fees were being charged.

Mahama promised to repair the free SHS program and create a system in which all students would begin and end school together.

Additionally, he reiterated his previous call for the resignation of the Health Minister, Kweku Agyemang-Manu, over the “failed” national health insurance scheme.

He claimed that the NHIL is entirely destroyed, and the minister himself has acknowledged that the NHIL card has no benefits. Mahama pledged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would make the NHIL and free SHS program better if elected.
