The Ghana Education Service (GES) has instructed the Headmaster and Senior Housemaster of GHANASCO, a senior high school in Tamale, to step down temporarily pending an investigation into the use of a toilet space as a dormitory for students.
The GES expressed concern and disappointment at the news of such inappropriate accommodation, particularly given that the school has declared 1790 vacancies, but only 1467 students have enrolled.
The school is expected to have enough capacity to house an additional 300 students.
The GES issued a statement stating that it is unacceptable for students to sleep in such a facility.
The Regional Director of Education has been tasked with investigating the matter and providing a report within two weeks.
The GES has assured the public that it will maintain a safe school environment for all students under its care.
