In Accra, a luncheon was hosted by the Ministry of Education to honor the winners of the President’s Independence Day Awards for the 2021-2022 academic year. During the event, the awardees were entertained with musical performances and provided with a buffet lunch.
In his address to the awardees and their parents, Stephen Kwaku Owusu, the Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), congratulated the winners and encouraged them to continue striving for academic excellence. He urged them not to rest on their laurels but to use their achievements as a stepping stone to win more awards in the future.
Richard Baffour Awuah, the Director of Pre-tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education, welcomed the awardees to the event and emphasized the importance of values such as discipline, hard work, and passion for learning.
The Nestle Ghana Limited sponsored award is an annual event that recognizes and rewards exceptional students between the ages of 14 and 19 from across the country. The 72 awardees were selected based on their outstanding performances in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), with special recognition given to the overall best male and female students from public schools. Additionally, there was a category for students who are challenged.
Each awardee was presented with a plaque, certificate, GH¢3,000 cash prize, laptop, and a year’s supply of Nestle products.
