In the 2022 West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Exam (WASSCE), two Ghanaian senior high school graduates from St. James Seminary SHS, Alex Opoku Manu and Benjamin Eyram Nana Kwame Degbey, secured the first and second positions respectively, surpassing Nigeria’s Ogidigbo Chioma Blessing who came in third place.
The announcement was made earlier this year, and the graduates were presented with their awards at the 71st Annual Council Meeting of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) held in Gambia.
These students received recognition for their exceptional performance among the five countries that participated in the examination.
Ghana Education Service (GES) praised the boys for their accomplishment in a Facebook post.
Dr. Eric Nkansah, GES Director-General, accompanied the Ghanaian delegation to Gambia, along with Father Owusu Sekyere, Headmaster of Opoku Ware School.
Furthermore, Alex and Eyram represented St. James Seminary at the 2022 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), winning in the quarterfinals against GHANASS and Kumasi Sec Tech with an impressive score of 44 points.
They later faced Presec Legon and Kumasi High School in the semi-finals but were defeated in a fierce battle.
After their achievement in the 2022 WASSCE, Alex Opoku Manu enrolled in the study of medicine at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, while Benjamin Eyram Degbey is pursuing Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Academic City.
