The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) is urging the government to eliminate the double-track system, a key element of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) program.
Expressing his concerns, Mr. Angel Cabonu, the President of NAGRAT, highlighted the issue of teachers feeling overwhelmed without receiving appropriate compensation.
Mr. Cabonu stressed the importance of providing adequate compensation to teachers, especially in light of the demands imposed on them by the double-track system of the FSHS program. This system was implemented by the government to manage the high enrollment rates in grade A schools.
Cabonu disclosed that NAGRAT’s council members are planning to convene a meeting to collectively decide the fate of the double-track system.
He pointed out that the current system is taking a toll on teachers, emphasizing that while teachers are willing to meet the demands, they lack the necessary motivation and receive no compensation for the additional effort they are putting in.
Mr. Cabonu made this call for the elimination of the double-track system during an interview on Joy FM’s 6:00 am news on Friday, November 3, 2023.
