Patrick Wisdom Krampah, the former headmaster of Ahamansu L. A. Erishad Primary School situated in the Oti Region, was apprehended last Monday by the Jasikan Police and detained over allegations of embezzling GH¢72,759.32 in unmerited salaries.

Dr. James Klutse Avedzi, the chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), directed the Kadjebi District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to collaborate with the police in apprehending Krampah for financial misconduct against the state. This directive was issued last Friday.

A source familiar with the matter from the Jasikan Police confirmed Krampah’s arrest to the Daily Graphic, mentioning that he is aiding the police in their inquiries.

The PAC’s action stemmed from the 2022 Auditor-General’s Report on the Account of Ghana – Ministries, Departments, and Other Agencies, which was presented to the committee on January 31, 2024.

According to the report, Krampah received undeserved salaries from February 2018 to June 2020, a period during which he had already vacated his position as headteacher to work for the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) as a project assistant.

Consequently, the Auditor-General suggested that the District Director of Education recover the misappropriated sum from Krampah, along with interest at the prevailing bank rate, and deposit it into the Auditor-General’s Recovery Account with the Bank of Ghana. Failure to do so would result in the amount being reclaimed from the district director and validators.

Dr. Avedzi emphasized that Krampah’s actions were in violation of the Public Financial Management Regulation.
