Former Akwatia MP Baba Jamal eyes Nima seat to challenge NDC incumbent.

Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, a former Member of Parliament for Akwatia in the Eastern Region, has made a strong move by switching his constituency to Nima in the Greater Accra Region.

He aims to challenge the sitting NDC MP, Naser Toure Mahama, in the Ayawaso East constituency National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary.

Baba Jamal, who has lived in Nima for many years and owns a house in the neighborhood, plans to fight for the development of the area if given the opportunity to represent the constituency. He believes that Nima deserves more attention and resources from the government.

Despite not directly attacking the sitting MP, Baba Jamal criticized Naser Toure Mahama for being relatively unknown to the media and constituents and not being vocal in Parliament.

As a legal practitioner and current Deputy Director in charge of Legal Affairs for the NDC, Baba Jamal has a history of partisan political involvement since his university days. He served as an MP for Akwatia from 2013 to 2017 and also as a deputy minister.

Baba Jamal had been eyeing the Akwatia constituency seat in the Eastern Region for a long time but was unsuccessful until he won it in 2012. However, he was defeated after one term by the NPP’s Mercy Adu Gyamfi in 2016.

Now, Baba Jamal has decided to take another shot at Parliament by shifting his focus to the Ayawaso East constituency of Greater Accra. His ultimate goal is to bring development projects to Nima and the entire constituency if elected.
