The Vice Chancellor of STU, Professor Kwadwo Adinkrah – Appiah, said the decision was part of an affirmative action designed to motivate more female students to pursue engineering programmes. He explained that the university was a technical institution that found it difficult to attract female students to study engineering programmes, and that the special consideration being given to female students was expected to attract more females to the field.

The university plans to install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in all examination halls and other areas around the campus to help reduce examination malpractice and enhance security. The Vice Chancellor explained that the university had established a police post to assist with security on campus, and urged students to concentrate on their studies and avoid negative behaviours.

In addition, the university has signed memoranda with various public and private institutions to enable students to undertake practical training as part of their studies. The Vice Chancellor also stated that the university would tar the main road linking the main campus to the Water-loo end of the campus to reduce the dusty nature of the area.

Students at the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) hostel and Waterloo have appealed for a shuttle bus to be provided to transport them to and from the main campus. The Vice Chancellor assured the students that the management would discuss the matter. He also cautioned students to stop leaving furniture outside lecture halls after use and said the university was working to procure more furniture to improve the situation.
