The Electricity Company of Ghana has announced that approximately 25 communities in Greater Accra will encounter intermittent power outages. Among the affected areas are Ghana Steel, Palace Mall, Furniture Citi, Lovely Transport, Kpone Barrier, Kingdom Transport, GPHA Terminal (Kpone), Sethi Realty, Abodakpi Farms, and Kpone Dump Site.
Additionally, communities such as Bediako, Golf City, and surrounding areas like Kwabenya, Agbogba, Maryera, part of Teiman, Ayi Mensah, Katapor, Top Herbal, Bohye, Abloradjei, Pure Water, Pokuase, Fountain Gate, and others will experience similar disruptions.
This situation stems from a shortfall in power supply by the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to the Pokuase Bulk Supply Point and the Smelter 2 Bulk Supply Point. The ECG has not provided a timeline for the normalization of power supply to these areas but assures affected customers that once GRIDCo restores supply, power will be reinstated.
Concerns regarding these outages have surfaced on various social media platforms, prompting demands for a load-shedding timetable from both the minority caucus in parliament and the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission. However, Energy Minister Mathew Opoku Prempeh dismissed these requests, asserting that such a timetable was unnecessary and suggesting that those requesting it should create one themselves.
