On Thursday, May 4th, 2023, the Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, announced a new reward program for members of the public who report illegal power connections.

Under this scheme, citizens who report illegal connections in their communities will receive 6% of the total debt of the reported illegal connection.

The MD of the ECG encouraged the public to participate in the program and help the company recover money owed to them.

He emphasized that the ECG belongs to everyone and urged citizens to view this initiative as an opportunity to assist the power-distributing company.

The ECG has already recovered GHS3.1 billion from defaulting customers over the past few weeks, and this new program is expected to increase recoveries further. The company had also conducted a 1-month nationwide mobilization exercise recently.
