CPP Launches Remembrance Day, Urges Youth to Reject NPP and NDC and Take Action in 2024 Election

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has launched its Remembrance Day, marking the 57th anniversary of the military coup that overthrew the party’s founder, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

During a press conference, Nana Akosua Frimponmaa Sarpong Kumankumah, Chairperson of the party, called on Ghana’s youth to reject both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), stating that neither party had demonstrated the capacity to govern the country effectively.

The month-long commemoration will include events recognizing the achievements and vision of Ghana’s first president.

Nana Sarpong Kumankumah Frimpongmaa also blamed Ghanaian citizens for the country’s lack of development and economic crisis, stating that their continual support of NPP and NDC candidates was part of the problem.

She encouraged youth to join the CPP and take up executive positions within the party. Nana Sarpong Kumankumah Frimpongmaa urged Ghanaians to support the CPP in the 2024 general election and restore the economy to its former glory.

In a statement released on the anniversary of the coup, the CPP called for accountability from the NPP government, stating that Ghana had become a “sorry state” and was dependent on foreign aid.

The statement noted that 57 years after the coup, the country was “bleeding and being woefully mismanaged,” and urged Ghanaians to vote the CPP back into power to correct the country’s course.
