Coalition of Concerned Teachers-GH Demands Urgent Release of Mutual Funds and Welfare Dues

The Coalition of Concerned Teachers-GH (CCT-GH) in the Kumasi Metropolis has expressed its dissatisfaction with the government’s disregard for the welfare of its members due to persistent delays in releasing mutual funds and welfare dues deductions.

This issue, which began around a year and a half ago, continues to impact all teachers’ union managers operating under the third-party reference system (TPRS) at the Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD).

In a statement released on Sunday, March 10, 2024, the coalition highlighted that the Minister’s purported austerity measures following discussions with the IMF are causing financial uncertainty among many teachers.

Emphasizing the importance of mutual funds and welfare dues, the coalition stressed that these are crucial for its members’ financial security, providing them with accessible and affordable financial assistance compared to bank loans.

Moreover, the delay in disbursing these funds not only affects individual teachers but also has broader implications for the stability of the education system and the well-being of students.

The coalition called on the Finance Minister to prioritize teachers’ well-being by promptly releasing the withheld mutual funds and welfare dues accrued over the past six months to the Fund Managers and Leadership for necessary actions to ensure peace in the education system.

If these accrued funds and dues are not released by the end of next month, the coalition warned that its members would take appropriate action.
