This year’s Final-year Junior High School (JHS) students nationwide will encounter a restructured Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), as per the recent announcement by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The updated examination format includes the incorporation of three new subjects: Career Technology, Creative Art & Design, and Arabic.
Of significance, Career Technology and Creative Art & Design have been segregated from the former Basic Design and Technology (BDT) syllabus, now mandated for all BECE candidates.
Arabic, however, stands as an optional subject solely accessible to candidates enrolled in Islamic basic schools.
In response to these curriculum modifications, the 2024 BECE will extend over six days, deviating from the conventional five-day duration. It will commence on Monday, July 8, 2024, and conclude on the subsequent Monday, July 15, 2024.
The inclusion of these subjects epitomizes ongoing endeavors to enrich the educational framework and offer students a more diverse array of learning avenues.
It underscores educational authorities’ dedication to adapting to evolving educational requisites, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of students’ knowledge and competencies.
