BECE 2024: 3 Teachers and 2 Invigilators Arrested for Alleged Examination Malpractice

Three teachers in Bekwai and two invigilators in the Bono Region have been arrested for attempting to assist students with answering questions during the BECE. According to Dr. Peter Anti-Partey, an educationist, teachers have been strongly advised against entering examination halls to aid students.

These arrests are part of WAEC’s efforts to curb all forms of examination malpractice. Dr. Anti-Partey emphasized that teachers should limit their role to preparing students for exams and avoid any involvement in malpractice, regardless of circumstances.

Dr. Anti-Partey also suggested that WAEC should formally report such incidents to the National Security Council to ensure that licenses of implicated teachers are revoked, serving as a deterrent to others.

John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Corporate Affairs, confirmed that the arrested teachers are currently in police custody. Further updates on the situation will be provided to the public as they become available.

Additionally, Kapi mentioned that two teachers from a center in the Bono Region were also apprehended. They are accused of using a third party to capture exam hall photos and send them answers, and they too have been handed over to the police.
