Akufo-Addo Challenges Mahama's Critique of WASSCE Results

President Akufo-Addo has criticized former President John Mahama’s dismissal of the recent West Africa Senior Schools Certificate Examination results as unfortunate. Mahama alleged that some invigilators allow teachers to assist students during the exam, potentially compromising the authenticity of the results.

This concern arose after Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum announced that this year’s results were the best since 2015.

During his “Building Ghana Tour,” Mahama emphasized the serious repercussions such laxity could have on the future of Ghana’s education system. He expressed worries that students might face challenges when their qualifications are scrutinized abroad.

However, speaking at the 187th speech and prize-giving day at Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast, President Akufo Addo dismissed Mahama’s criticism as baseless.

He commended the significant improvement in both the quantity and quality of the results, attributing it to enhanced educational standards.

Akufo-Addo also defended the integrity of the free senior high school program, highlighting the positive outcomes reflected in the 2023 WASSCE results.

He emphasized that these results underscored the success of his administration’s education policies, with a notable increase in the number of students achieving high grades in core subjects.
