The management of Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) has established a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a level 300 student at the institution.
The purpose of this committee, as stated by the school’s management, is to uncover the facts surrounding the incident and to provide the university with valuable insights on how to effectively manage similar situations in the future to prevent any further tragedies.
The student in question, Prosper Owusu, also known as ‘Arrested,’ tragically passed away at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital six days after sustaining severe burns on the university campus.
It has been reported that Prosper Owusu, who previously held the role of chief priest at Opoku Ware Hall within the school, was involved in a disturbing incident captured in a viral video. In the video, he was seen setting himself on fire, only to struggle in an attempt to extinguish the flames that quickly engulfed him.
Kofi Twum Ampofo, the University Relations Officer for AAMUSTED, shared this information during an interview on the Kumasi-based OTEC 102.9 FM’s morning show ‘Nyansapo’ on Monday, September 4, 2023. He sadly confirmed that the student had passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital six days after the tragic incident.
Twum Ampofo also mentioned that the university management had promptly notified the family of the deceased and expressed the institution’s commitment to working closely with the family to provide any necessary support during this difficult time.
